Subject Matter: California History – Regions of California

Grade Level: Third Grade

Lesson Objective:

Learners will demonstrate knowledge of California history and an understanding of the different regions and their purpose.

 

Subject Matter Content Standard:

 

• 3.1 Students describe the physical and human geography and use maps, tables, graphs, photographs, and charts to organize information about people, places, and environments in a spatial context.
• Identify geographical features in their local region (e.g., deserts, mountains, valleys, hills, coastal areas, oceans, lakes).
• Trace the ways in which people have used the resources of the local region and modified the physical environment (e.g., a dam constructed upstream changed a river or coastline).

Assessment:  Students used the above websites to locate specific content in order to answer questions regarding the history of California, specifically the regions that make up California. Students are able to navigate the web in order to obtain useful information, helping them to gain more knowledge of the regions of California. Students will find the technology useful when trying to answer the twelve questions specific to the four major California regions.
